Ballroom Dancing Lessons on DVD
Learn 6 or More Ballroom Dance Styles at Home!
Let’s Dance Louis Review
If you’re interested in Ballroom Dancing and have watched the hit TV series Dancing with the Stars then there’s a chance you’ve come across instructor Louis Van Amstel.
Louis have appeared on Dancing with the Stars as a choreographer which has some what propelled him to fame in the ballroom dance world.
His new course, Let’s Dance Louis, is targeting women, men and couples looking to get fit, have fun and add some spice back into their lives through learning to ballroom dance.
This course is a download based video lessons program, meaning as soon as you purchase the course you’re able to download all 8 video lessons plus the MP3 dance along songs included with the program.
This has it’s benefits: you’re able to start watching right away and you don’t have to wait for a course to ship to your home (which is a down fall to our top rated course Learn and Master Ballroom Dancing).
How ever there are cons associated with it as well: You have to watch the lessons on your computer or burn them off to a DVD to watch them on your home DVD player. Since not every one looking to learn Ballroom dancing is a “techie” this could be a problem.
The Lessons
Louis is an energetic, professional dance coach. He is more then qualified to teach these dance lessons, although I would say they could have spent a little more time on the individual parts for the leader and the follower for each dance. This makes it easier to practice your parts individually and gain a better understanding of what you’re supposed to be doing when dancing with your partner.
There are 8 different dances covered:
- Rhumba
- Cha Cha
- FoxTrot
- Tango
- Salsa
- The Jive
- Waltz
- The Samba
This more the covers the main styles of the American ballroom so you’ll be a well rounded dancer if you were to master all 8 of these styles.

The Dance Along Songs
I feel this dance course has come up a bit short in providing music for students to dance to while practicing at home. Competitive course, and our #1 ballroom dance dvd pick, Learn and Master Ballroom Dancing, has included 6 full discs of music each at 3 different tempos to use as you progress. The MP3 files included with Let’s Dance Louis are good, but there just isn’t enough of them.
Additional materials
There is no workbook or online support website included with Let’s Dance Louis. The support aspect could be in part because this course is new, but in our opinion it’s important to be able to get support when learning at home.
While I don’t believe a workbook is a must for a self study ballroom dance course it is offered with other competitive products and for the close to $100 price tag of this course I feel there should be some sort of supplement learning materials available.
Conclusion
For the money, Let’s Dance Louis sells for $97, I would pay the extra $50 and get Learn and Master Ballroom Dance. You get far more for your money and it’s a more well rounded learn to dance program.
I don’t get the same feeling that there was a lot of time spent planning and recording the lessons for this program like I did from Learn and Master Ballroom Dance so I have a hard time justifying the high price tag.
There is a 60 day money back guarantee so if you like the idea of learning to dance from Louis Van Amstel and being able to download your videos immediately you can try it out and request a full refund if you’re not satisfied.
